Uttar Pradesh is a northern state of India. It is one of the most populated states of India. Barasingha is a state animal of Uttar Pradesh. It is known as Swamp Deer. In Assamese, the Barasingha deer is called Dolhorina; Dol. Barasingha is a native deer species of India. It is mostly found in northern and central India. Along with India, it is also found in Nepal in very few numbers. Barasingha deer are almost extinct in Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Bhutan. As its name is pronounced Barasingha, the meaning of Barasingha is Twelve Horn. A mature deer can have 10 to 14 tines.

Swamp deer is an endangered species. It is very less in number in India, even it has been extinct from a few of the Indian states too and where it still presents, is limited to some area. It is limited to Kanha National Park in Madhya Pradesh, 5 to 6 localities of Uttar Pradesh especially nearby the Ganga river, a few in the Kaziranga and Manas National Parks in Assam, and a few are in the Jhilmil Jheel Conservation Reserve in Haridwar Uttarkhand on the bank of Ganga river. Barasingha has been extinct from West Bengal and has not been seen in Arunachal Pradesh too, probably extinct there too.

Sarus Crane is the state bird of Uttar Pradesh. It is also known as Sarus or Kronch (क्रौंच). Sarus Crane is one of the large species which is found in the Indian subcontinent, Southeast Asia and Australia. It is also one of the tallest flying birds. The adult Sarus Crane is large in size with grey wide wings.

Sarus Crane, the state bird of Uttar Pradesh can be seen mainly in the Gangetic plains and northern and northeastern parts of India. Sarus Crane is a native to India and prefers to live in the same geographical area.

State Flower of Uttar Pradesh: Palash

Palash is the state flower of Uttar Pradesh (UP). It is also known as Flame-of-the-forest, and Bastard Teak. Palash flower is also used to make saffron color for Holi.

The size of the Palash flower is small in size but the leaves are big. The Palash leaves are also used to make plates and bowls while in some Indian states it is used in cigarettes (Beedi). Palash flowers and their seeds are also used for medical purposes.

Ashoka is the state tree of Uttar Pradesh. There is a religious significance of the Ashoka tree in Hindu. It is also considered a sacred tree in Nepal and Shri Lanka. Ashoka tree is a native tree of the Indian subcontinent. Ashoka tree’s flower is the state flower of Odisha.

The Ashoka tree can be 28 to 30 feet long. It is a rainforest tree. The flowering season of the Ashok tree is between February to April. There are a large number of medical properties found in the Ashoka tree hence it is used in making medicine.

State Fish of Uttar Pradesh: Chital

Chital is the state fish of Uttar Pradesh. It is also known as Indian Featherback or Indian Knifefish. Chital is found in  Bangladesh, India, Nepal, and Pakistan in the Brahmaputra, Indus, Ganges, and Mahanadi River basins.
